THESE ARE THE WINTER STORM NAMES FOR 2022-23

The 2022-23 season is the 11th season The Weather Channel is naming winter storms.

The names are used in alphabetical order to identify winter storms that meet objective naming criteria based on National Weather Service warnings, or the expectation that a sufficient amount of warnings will eventually be issued.

To be named, a winter storm has to meet, or eventually meet, at least one of the following criteria:

– NWS winter storm, blizzard, or ice storm warnings covering a population of at least 2 million.

– NWS winter storm, blizzard, or ice storm warnings covering at least an area of 400,000 square kilometers, or slightly larger than the state of Montana.

Pets and Icemelters – Use GroundWorks™!

In winter, it’s common to see melted ice dumped on icy sidewalks and driveways. Many people use them without realizing the damage they can cause to their dogs. So why are so many retailers choosing to offer GroundWorks Natural Icemelter™? Because GroundWorks™ is made from potash (potassium chloride, or KCI) , a colorless crystalline solid or powder used widely in fertilizers and in the preparation of most potassium compounds. When pets have contact with traditional icemelters, like calcium chloride for example, their paws are burned, and their eyes, noses and tummies are irritated. The same concern simply doesn’t exist if they have contact GroundWorks™ . In fact, potassium chloride is used for many things!

Because potassium is a mineral required for healthy physiology, it’s also an ingredient found in many over the counter and prescription medicines. Potassium chloride is so safe that it’s a common alternative to traditional salt licks often put out for livestock including deer and horses. Popular pet food brands like Beneful®, Hill’s Science Diet®, Nutro® Natural Choice, Pedigree®, Purina®, Iams®, Eukanuba®, and Kibbles ‘n Bits® all include potassium chloride as an ingredient in a variety of their specialty foods. Safe for crops, safe for plants, safe for soil, safe for concrete, safe for water, safe to eat . . . no wonder retailers are choosing GroundWorks™.

Christmas Reindeer Poop Recipe

Instructions:

1st Pour malted milk balls or Milk Duds into a plastic bag.
2nd Attach Poem below:

I woke with such a fright when I heard Santa call… “Now dash away, dash away, dash away all!” I ran to the lawn and in the snowy white drifts, those nasty reindeer had left “little gifts.” I got an old shovel and started to scoop neat little piles of reindeer poop! But to throw them away seemed such a waste, so I saved them, thinking – you might like a taste! As I finished my task, which took quite awhile, Old Santa passed by and he sheepishly smiled. And I heard him exclaim as he sped off in the sky… “Well they’re not potty trained, but at least they can fly!”

Happy Holidays from XYNYTH Manufacturing!

Winter is coming!

It’s always a good idea to learn about what to do to prepare your home for the winter.

Here are some brilliant ideas from LifeHacker: How to properly De-Ice Your Home

Buy the right ice melting product for your driveway and walkways.

There are many other choices than plain rock salt depending on your concerns:

Eco-friendly, safe on concrete, gentle on landscaping, no residue, pet-friendly, non-corrosive, LEED compliant…etc.

  • Know how much ice melt you need.

Check the instructions for the specific product you buy.

Know how much area you need to cover, and how many times you will need to cover it.

  • Use the ice melt the right way

Pre-treat your walkway and driveways before it snows. Mix a little sand with ice melt can provide traction.

Remove snow before using ice melt.

  • Prevent and clear ice dam on your roof

Ice dams prevent water runoff from flowing to the ground below, they can tear off gutters, loosen shingles, and lead to leaks when snow melts.

Buy roof rakes or DIY Snow ripper to clear the snow off rooftop after each snowstorm.
