Happy BC Day!

Our office will be closed for BC Day on August 7th. It is a statutory holiday observed in the province of British Columbia. This day is also celebrated by other provinces as Civic/Provincial Day. It is celebrated on the first Monday in the month of August.

The first British Columbia day Act was introduced in 1974. The main aim of this statutory holiday was to pay respect to the forerunners of the land. This day is of immense importance to celebrate the local culture, history and development throughout the years. After the tributes on Monday, we will reopen on Tuesday, August 8th.

ICEMELTER FOR LEED BUILDINGS – CHANGES

As some of you may know, as of January 2015 LEED has redefined the requirements for LEED – Compliant Icemelters. According to the update, “Environmentally Preferred” Icemelters may not contain more than five percent of the following ingredients: Sodium Chloride, Calcium Chloride, Magnesium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Potassium Acetate, or Ammonia-based products.

XYNYTH Winter Warrior Family of products meets these stringent requirements: Winter Warrior Enviro LEADer Icemelter , Winter Warrior Runway Control Icemelter® and Winter Warrior CMA Icemelter .

Winter Warrior Enviro LEADer Icemelter  is the Superior ECO De-icer, designed specifically to be used around all Green Buildings and properties, where there are environmental or corrosion concerns. It is safe on concrete and works powerfully down to -21°C (-6 °F).

Winter Warrior Runway Control Icemelter® is comprised of Sodium Acetate and Sodium Formate, and thus contains none of the above mentioned ingredients. It is completely biodegradable, non-corrosive and also is Federally Approved for Used on Airport Runways, Taxiways & Aprons.

Another alternative that Green Building owners could turn to is Winter Warrior CMA Icemelter , which is made from 100% Calcium Magnesium Acetate (CMA). CMA is made of dolomite lime and acetic acid, and is perfect where corrosion or environmental issues are of concern. It is easy to apply, and biodegradable. It performs down to temperature as low as -12° C (10° F).

Its not rocket science!

Consumers are often in a rush when applying icemelter and usually do not follow the instructions.  Icemelters help to remove ice by breaking it down – first into smaller chunks, and finally into a liquid. Icemelters should not be confused with snow removal. Icemelters or deicers are designed to melt and break down the ice accumulations not the snow accumulations. In situations where there is ice and snow build up, it is best to remove the snow, using mechanical means such as shovels or snow blowers, and then use an ice melter to break down the ice into slush.  Most of our products only require ¼-1/2 cup per square yard/meter.  If in doubt, follow the instructions!

Winter is still coming!

It looks like winter is finally arrived in the rest of the continent and some models are predicting it could be here a while. According to sources like the Weather Network and NOAA, We may see a return of the Arctic outflow which could push temperatures back down to levels seen the last two years in the east and extending far south. Combined with El Nino effects that are bringing more storms to the east coast could result in some major snow events before all is done. The El Nino effects in the west may be keeping some temperatures above normal but in many markets this is resulting in more freeze/thaw cycles as the temperatures keep jumping back and forth. This could work in our favour as this type of cycle tends to require more ice melt than constant deep cold temperature levels.
